Armenia’s Tourism Sector
“The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see. “
Gilbert Keith Chesterton

Tourism occupies a leading position in the global economy. Tourism has been defined as one of the most promising sectors of Armenia’s economy.
On the initiative of Armenia 2020, a thorough research on this sector was carried out by one of the world leading management consulting companies – McKinsey & Co., with significant contribution from AEPLAC and the RA Ministry of Trade and Economic Development.
This publication sums up the results of the deep analyses on present state of Armenia’s tourism, prospects of its development, major obstacles to the sector’s growth, as well as it gives recommendations for making tourism one of the most profitable branches of Armenia’s economy. Implementation of the long-term development program suggested by McKinsey specialists will make Armenia an active regional tourism center with infrastructure meeting all international standards.

Armenia2020 Scenarios Book
This book explores four very different scenarios that could evolve over the next two decades in Armenia. The scenarios are, by design, very different in tone and structure, as well as content. The purpose is neither to advocate one scenario or another, nor to predict Armenia’s future. Rather, the purpose is to present a range of possible scenarios and formats, from a set of highly personal interviews describing an extremely bleak and pessimistic future state, to an anecdotal, highly rosy and optimistic account of potential events and results over the next two decades. In reading the scenarios, it is hoped that readers will gain an appreciation for the vast array of choices, decisions and possible events and outcomes over the next two decades that can shape the future of Armenia. It is also hoped that the scenarios presented will inspire readers to discuss, debate and ultimately define their own shared vision for Armenia’s future.
